Is life really a race? If so, then why?

You have to be number one in class. You must have more friends. You must have a job that pays higher than that of your neighbour’s. You must become more successful than your batch mate in college.    Life is like a race but it is more than just a competition. The greatest man might not be the richest, the fastest, the strongest or the wisest. Men who are continuously trying to get ahead of the next guy will never be happy. So have they truly won anything?    Looking at it from another angle, I see life as a journey, with a few mountains to climb, some bumps in the road; not just something to endure. There are stops along the way. So pause, smell the roses and enjoy the trip.   I could ask like Aristotle , “A race for what?” The only end line I know of is mortality, and to be honest, I’m not in much of a hurry to get there. You don ’t need to race but – You need a degree . – You need social skills . – You need money to live. – Employers ...

স্রষ্টা হতে চিঠি! ( Letter from The God! )

Letter from The God!  Many years ago a farmer named Ravid lived in a small village of Sylhet. He used to work in other people’s lands. Because he hadn't got any ground of his own. He toiled hard for earning livelihood. His children weren't allowed to play outside in the fields. Mostly he was cheated by landholders and the affluent people of whom he worked for. Ravid was very distressed about all these.       One day like a marvel, he found a land at a cheap price. It had a rate of 80,000 taka. He wanted to buy that ground. But he had savings of only 60,000 taka. So, he needed more money. He requested his friends and relatives for lending him some money. But every time he had to hear, “You’re nothing but a poor peasant. How will you return it?’’ And the land owner even didn’t agree to decrease the charge.      But Ravid had a master plan. He knew that who wouldn’t refuse him. He decided that he would ask God for money! He...

Imagine I am a Cow! ( THE ARTICLE OF COW! )

Imagine I am a Cow! Muttakin Rashid Alvi No, I am not joking at all! I am serious about this! I am really a cow now! So let me SHOUT, “Humba!’’ At least for some kind of harmony for sometime.                 My eyes see and feel many bad things happening around the planet. But the only thing that I can do is SHOUT, “Humba!’’ Because I am a teen aged cow and my horns aren’t too long let alone being sharp. I can’t express my feelings like humans do and so I can’t protest that much.              I like moving from one place to another. I love the fascinating tea gardens and when I am on the hill-tops I feel cheerful about the fact that I am far far away from humans.               I see liars, frauds, cheaters but I can’t burn their lips. I see eve teasers but I can’t be the goddess of vengeance. Because there is no Nemesis for giving me any kind of regalia for a fe...
